My name is Gancarz Małgorzata.

I am a veterinarian (PWZ 15337).

The animals I treat professionally are exclusively small ruminants (sheep, goats).

▪I graduated in veterinary medicine from the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. I am also a graduate of the Academy of Physical Education, majoring in Physiotherapy - I completed part of this program at Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão, as well as at two private clinics in Lisbon (Portugal). My education allows me to skillfully combine both medical disciplines in my work with animals.

For over 10 years, I have been consistently expanding my specialist knowledge on the health and welfare of small ruminants. From the very beginning, demonstrating my determination to educate myself, both during lambing season and in my free time, I worked on private farms located in various regions of Poland. During my studies, I also gained practical experience during extracurricular veterinary and breeding internships organized on my own initiative at sheep farms belonging to the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław and the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

▪ In Mexico, I completed a 1.5-month field training course in Assisted Reproductive Biotechnology for Small Ruminants (Bioteczoo Biotecnología Animal - Servicios de Reproducción Asistida en Rumiantes) under the supervision of renowned specialists in this field. The training covered laparoscopic and ICI (intracervical insemination) methods of insemination, embryo transfer, pregnancy diagnosis, preparation of males and females for reproduction (including hormonal synchronization of the estrous cycle), milk quality assessment and mastitis control; semen collection, selection, and banking, as well as broadly understood reproductive management, including the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive problems in males and females.

In Spain, I completed a six-month specialist internship at a veterinary clinic for ruminants. In addition to clinical practice, I worked with herds of large and small ruminants in the mountainous terrain of the Pyrenees on the Spanish-French border (province of Huesca). During my stay in Spain, I was invited to give a lecture entitled “VET ABROAD - Why an international experience is important in our vet profession?”, encouraging future veterinarians to take the initiative, step outside their comfort zone, and actively and consciously build their veterinary career path.

Hello!

▪ I participated in the 31st World Buiatrics Congress in Madrid in a dual role – both as a participant and as technical support for the organization of the event. The WBC brought together hundreds of exhibitors and over 3,000 distinguished specialists from 74 countries at IFEMA Palacio Municipal de Congresos.

▪ I participated in a two-day event, the National Goat Conference, organized by Prairie View A&M University (Texas, USA).

▪ During the International Symposium of Student Research Clubs and Doctoral Conference (University of Life Sciences in Lublin), I gave a presentation entitled “Anaplasmosis in sheep - a clinical case in Żelaźna sheep”.

▪ During my studies, I was a member of the International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA).

▪ In 2019, based on my previous experience, I decided to create a Facebook page “ani beee, ani meee” dedicated to sheep and goat breeding and veterinary issues. It has gained a wide audience, reaching breeders and lovers of small ruminants both in Poland and in the most remote corners of the world.

▪ While working in Italy, I focused on the diagnosis of parasitic diseases in sheep and goats, internal medicine, and the reproduction of small ruminants.

▪ The extraordinary diversity of cases I have encountered while working with tens of thousands of sheep and goats has definitely facilitated differential diagnosis and targeted assistance. In addition, participation in numerous clinical workshops and training courses in various fields of veterinary medicine (including surgery, orthopedics, neurology, and ophthalmology) allows me to look at small ruminants from a much broader medical perspective.

▪ Due to my physiotherapy education, I am also interested in orthopedics and animal zoophysiotherapy. I regularly expand my knowledge in this field and follow developments in these areas with interest.

I created a veterinary and breeding educational portal for small ruminant breeders, veterinarians, and all those who care for sheep and goat herds to provide them with access to highly specialized knowledge and veterinary support.

I AM A MEMBER OF THE ASSOCIATION:

GALLERY OF SELECTED PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS:

With Dr. Pol (The Incredible Dr. Pol - National Geographic Channel) and his wife during the 31st World Buiatrics Congress (Madrid).

Do you know how small ruminants see?

It is said that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. How is this true for sheep and goats? Certainly, one cannot deny their extraordinary beauty due to their specific structure. What causes this and what does it provide them with?

Horizontal pupils give these small ruminants a very wide field of vision, allowing them to spot predators lurking in the bushes. The eyes of sheep and goats can rotate 50° (10 times more than human eyes!). This is extremely helpful when the animal lowers its head to the ground. Thanks to such high mobility of the eyeballs, it can maintain the same field of vision both when standing and grazing.

In addition, horizontal and flat pupils do not absorb as much sunlight. This means that small ruminants are not blinded by the intense sunlight - unlike us.

Video-relation of participation in the autumn REDYK (Szczawnica, Poland 2018)

REDYK!

On this day, sheep have priority!

🐑🐑🐑

Redyk is one of the most important cultural events in the highlands! It is the traditional driving of sheep to the mountain pastures or their ceremonial return from grazing. It is an extremely important event for the highlanders who continue the traditions of their ancestors, who have been raising sheep in these beautiful regions of Poland for centuries.

On Redyk Day, sheep have priority over other road users. Highlanders herding their flocks have the right to use roads and sidewalks, and drivers and pedestrians must give way to them. This is a unique privilege, rooted in ancient highlander customs and traditions.

Redyk is not only a sheep march, but also an opportunity for the local community to celebrate and integrate. It is an event that brings highlanders together and allows them to preserve their unique traditions. For tourists, it is an opportunity to learn about highlander culture, folk art, and the beauty of these picturesque regions. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit Podhale during Redyk and immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of this festival!
